Are You Ready for Fourth of July?

The Fourth of July is a great time for get-togethers with friends and family and everyone looks forward to backyard BBQ’s and swim parties to celebrate our nation’s independence. You’ve been planning yours for weeks. The food’s been decided on, the decorations are bought, and it seems like everything is ready to go…but is your pool ready? If your guests are planning to dip in more than just your famous 7-layers, there are a few things you need to do first.

By this time, your pool has already been in use for a couple months, and will probably not require excessive cleaning or debris removal. However, it is very important that you perform adequate water testing to ensure your pool chlorine and other pool chemical levels are where they need to be.

A couple days before the party, check your pH, chlorine, total Alkalinity, and calcium hardness.  Cyanuric acid levels, mineral content, Total Dissolved Solids and Acid or Base Demand tests might also be required if it has been a while. If you’d like, bring a water sample to us and we’ll test your pool chemicals levels for you.

Recommended pool chemical levels are as follows:

  • pH: 7.2 – 7.8
  • Chlorine: 1.0 – 2.0 ppm
  • Total Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm
  • Calcium Hardness: 180 – 220 ppm
  • Cyanuric Acid: 25 – 50 ppm
  • Total Dissolved Solids: 500 – 5000 ppm

Reagents should still be fine to use as long as they have been kept away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures which can damage their strength and effectiveness.

Once your pool is ready to go, you have the green light for fun!  Make sure to follow pool safety guidelines and have a great Independence Day! Have any questions? Call 877-563-POOL to talk to one of our experts or stop by to get everything you need!
